Long Weekend with my Family

I leave tomorrow for Florida. I am visiting my family for a long weekend. I will be seeing my Dad, Mom, Sister & Brother. My parents have been divorced since I was a kid. They get along so it makes it nice for us siblings to all get together with them. I believe we have a barbeque planned for Sunday. I will tell you all about it when I get back.

Progress Report

Here is Fetching. I just reached the part for the thumb. Just a little left to go. This is a great pattern I think I might make another pair in a different color.

Here are the beginnings of Grandiflora. I have cast on about 4 times. It has been more labor than love. With 301 stitches on the needle it is hard to tell where you are at in the pattern. I might throw in the towel on this one and find a more enjoyable pattern to knit. I love the yarn so that is good. If you know a good knit blanket pattern that uses two colors let me know.

Cosmo PI

Finally Cosmo is starting to use his kitty pi I made him. I had to put an old towel in it to make it more to his liking. It is the perfect size for him.

Have a wonderful weekend.

My House in a Cloud

The other day I felt like I was in a Scooby Doo episode. My house was sitting in a cloud as thick as pea soup. You could not see very far from where you were standing.

Fence Progress

Here is a photo of the old fence posts.

Here is a pile of the new material for the front pasture.

Here are a couple of the railroad ties in place. I was surprised how much they cost. When I was a kid we lived a couple years in Mississippi. When they worked on the railroad nearby our house my Dad gathered us kids and we would go pick up the old railroad ties that they left beside the tracks. We would drag them home and Dad would use the ties to border his flower beds. I think I got my love of gardening from my Father.

Of course I mowed one too many lawns as a kid and prefer to leave the lawn mowing to Chris.

Halloween Table Topper

I did work on my quilted table topper. I put a black border around the panel & have been making some strips for the sides. I am cutting out squares of Purple & green fabric for the strips.

I think I will use this pumpkin fabric for the back that way I can use either side of the topper.

Busy Month

This month is crazy busy for me. Lots to get done before October, I have a couple trips planned next month and need to get more of the indoor painting done before I run out of time. We have family coming in November for Thanksgiving and I would like to have the painting all done before they get here. Plus my sister-n-law might stay over one weekend in October and our guest room is packed full of boxes. I have not unpacked everything yet because we are still painting and it makes it easier to not have to move around a ton of stuff to do the painting.

This week I am working on the guest bathroom. We took out the ugly wood medicine cabinets, gold shower doors, and wood accessories. For now I am going to put up some primer then a coat of paint, can’t wait to paint over that dark color.

Fleece Delivery

UPS dropped off a couple of boxes yesterday. To my surprise they were the alpaca fleeces shaved off our girls this season. I guess I did not really know what to expect or how much fleece comes off an alpaca. This is how much we got off of three of our girls Tasha, Emmy Leigh, Satine & one baby alpaca our Miss Bianca. I am thrilled. I do not have much time to do anything with it now but I plan to find a mill to process it for me and turn it into skeins of yarn.

I especially liked Tasha’s fleece. I love the rich dark color. I am glad we had a bay black baby this year, Zissou’s fleece should be real good next year come clipping time. Of course the white fleece is good too because you can dye them whatever color you want.

Oh Deer

The Guys working on the front pasture area removed the barbed wire that was around the old fence. I looked out the window one afternoon and spotted two lovely deer walking through the front yard. I love it. It was so cool to watch.

Knock Knock

One morning I sat down to my desk to start working and I heard a tapping on the wall above the desk. Then it got louder and sounded like knocking. I walked outside and around the house to find a BIG woodpecker peeking out of a hole in the side of the house. Not good. He quickly flew away and I was unable to get a good photo of him. We will need to cover up that hole.

Grandiflora

I Picked up some yarn last weekend to start the Grandiflora afghan. We drove all the way to Hobby Lobby about an hour and a half drive away. I found some soft baby yarn.

It is Baby Bee Sweet Delight in colors “Berry Jam” & “Naked”. It should work nicely and once completed allow me to throw it in the washer when needed. Now to get up enough guts to cast on all those stitches.

Halloween Quilting

For the Sew I Knit along I picked up these two cool Halloween fabrics I plan to make quilted table runners with them. I am going to look in my fabric stash for some compatible fabric colors. I don’t have a pattern I am just going to wing it.

Under Foot

The girls like to stay in whatever room I am in. Unfortunately most of the time they are under foot. Take the kitchen for example; the tile floor is real hard on your feet if you are standing for a long period of time. So I place throw rugs under each work station like the stove & sink. Apparently the dogs feel the tile is cold and hard and think I put the rugs there for them. Now to get any work done I have to lean over a dog or shoo them out of the kitchen.

FO

My wrap has finished blocking and has turned out beautifully. It is perfect for throwing over your shoulders on a late summer evening or autumn day.

I am so looking forward to this long holiday weekend. I plan to have lots of rest and relaxation, maybe throw in a festival or two. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
